2026 Conference Session 2 Leadership Panel

Hi Drama Queensland Members,

It was such a delight to be on the panel Saturday morning, and to walk back into the vitally important world of education in which you shape, create, and inspire every day.

In preparing this reading list we discussed, I wanted to recognise 2 of my Drama Teacher mentors, Judith McLean and Brad Haseman, who always leave me with a new book to explore after every conversation! So here I am, continuing the tradition.

Inspired Reading List

  • Emotional Agility by Susan David: A powerful guide to meeting life with courage, self-awareness, and flexibility. It shows how to work with your emotions, stay grounded in your values, and move forward with resilience and purpose.
  • Coherence by Dr. Alan Watkins: A practical exploration of how to stay centred under pressure, regulate energy and emotion, and bring clarity and steadiness to your leadership and relationships.
  • The Creative Habit by Twyla Tharp: A joyful reminder that creativity is not a rare gift but a daily practice! Through simple rituals and discipline, it inspires readers to build momentum, unlock ideas, and create with confidence. (I listened to this on Audible and she was reading it when she was 62, she is now 82 and was on a podcast with Huberman which is equally inspiring: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnPQ4mLRG-c)
  • Presence by Otto Scharmer: An invitation to listen more deeply, slow down assumptions, and open yourself to new possibilities. It encourages a more conscious way of seeing, sensing, and leading from the future you want to help create.

Finally, here is an article from the recent talk I referenced re Cultivating Curiosity: The Leadership Capability AI Cannot Replace.

You can find me on usual LinkedIn, Insta or here.

With energy,
Hayley
