Masterclass & Theatre Event: Peter and the Starcatcher

We are excited to announce that Drama Queensland is partnering with our friends Dead Puppet Society to offer members an opportunity to attend a performance of Peter and the Starcatcher. This production is a theatrical spectacle with over 100 unforgettable characters, puppetry, live music and technical wizardry. This exclusive event includes a pre-show opportunity to discover more about the production’s education resources with Dead Puppet Society’s Youth and Engagement Director Helen Stephens. Following the show, glimpse behind the scenes of this Broadway smash hit with an exclusive on-stage tour and meet and greet with cast and creatives. 

 

Peter and the Starcatcher is the hilarious, swashbuckling prequel to Peter Pan. Originally developed by Disney Theatrical Group, written by Rick Elice (Jersey Boys), this all-new production is reimagined by local theatre powerhouse Dead Puppet Society. This adventurous tale of friendship for all generations will hook you from the moment the curtain goes up. Escape to the fantastical world you never knew existed before Neverland with Peter and the Starcatcher – because you’re never too old to never grow up.

Masterclass Add – On:

We are offering Queensland drama teachers a one-day masterclass at QPAC on Fridays 21st March. This masterclass provides the opportunity to connect and train with leading visual theatre practitioner and director Helen Stephens, and to dive into the Dead Puppet Society process of creating visually astonishing and deeply imaginative work.

 

This masterclass will equip educators with the tools to lead puppetry and visual theatre units within a school context. Dead Puppet Society has developed a deeply practical approach to scaffolding the learning and skills development of students while also offering a clear pedagogy for teachers to apply within their own classrooms.

 

With a focus on visual theatre conventions, puppetry, ensemble performance and the translation of page to stage stimulus, this professional development masterclass is an opportunity to dive deep into the mechanics of contemporary visual storytelling, and come away with invigorated ideas and new skills.
